Kataragama

Located in the South East Katataragama is an ancient sacred site that is visited by all faiths. Located close to the Yala National park, it is surrounded by luxurious jungle with all kinds of wild life. This ancient site is dedicated to the God Skanda/Murukan and pilgrims travel by foot beginning in South India along the East coast of Sri Lanka and through the Jungles to worship. It is a place of peace and harmony, and one can view the Kiri Vehera Dagoba,or visit Sella Kataragama. You also can take a Safari in the nearby Yala National park .The festive season is July/August when Kataragama is home to thousands of Pilgrims from all over the world.
