Famous for its fishing, this village is fast becoming a tourist destination. It is situated in the North-West on the edge of the Puttalam lagoon. This lagoon is the largest in the country encompassing over 300 SQ KMS. It has several islands of interest and is fast becoming the foremost location for Kite surfing, with several international competitions being held every year. On the sea side it is famous for its coral reefs and its marine sanctuary and coastal environment and its vast populations of dolphins. The tourists can take dolphin and whale watching boat trips as well as visit the Islands in the Lagoon .It has a varied bio diversity with reefs, and flat coastal plains, mangroves and swamps teeming with crab and prawns, and aquatic wild life. With the influx of tourists several leading resorts have begun to operate to satisfy the tourist demand.
